So how did I get started in making and selling bespoke chairs online?

Well, I had been working for years as an upholsterer, making furniture in factories for various companies, Laura Ashley, Christie Tyler, MFI, Habitat, Argos - they really worked you hard. I would be paid as little as £6 per item of furniture that I upholstered, and I would be completely exhausted by the end of the day.

Our daughter Beth was born in 1999, and I decided to make her a child's chair. My wife and I designed the chair and I scavenged some wood from an old wardrobe, made the frame and then cut up one of Beth's Pooh Bear duvets, and made her an adorable little chair. She loved it, and so did all her little friends. So in the evenings, after work, I started making these children's chairs for her friends. It was lovely to make a quality product that kids and adults loved, so I started to sell them online.

Due to many requests, I started to make adult chairs, and surprisingly, these were even more in demand and popular than the children's chairs.

A few years later I was made redundant - the British upholstery industry had been decimated by cheap imports from abroad. So I took my redundancy pay and I was able to fully commit to being self employed, and I have never looked back.

I pride myself on providing a high quality, bespoke item, for a very reasonable price, in a huge variety of beautiful, designer fabrics. I love seeing pictures of my handcrafted chairs being enjoyed by children and adults, and adding that special finishing touch to a beautiful room - it is very rewarding.
